Going for tapas in Calle Elvira, Granada

Calle Elvira is one of the main streets in Granada and it is only 2 minutes away from Escuela Delengua. There are many tapas bars along this road and whenever you are hungry or thirsty you only have to  go to this street where you will find a great selection of good food and drink. Going to bars and eating tapas is one of my favourite things to do here in Granada. Going for tapas is a typically Spanish affair; you can go for tapas in any city in Spain but you have to pay for them, not like here in Granada, where you get them for free!! You only have to pay for your drinks. Ask the waiter for a drink, like a beer or tinto de verano (red wine and lemonade) and he will bring you free tapas with your drink. There are some bars where you can choose your tapas or in other bars you will be given a different one with each round of drinks. Every time you order a drink you are also given something to eat. There are sandwiches, vegetables and rice, bread and chorizo, fried squid, olives, cheese and many more, everyday there is something different to choose. You don’t have to go to expensive restaurants when you feel hungry because with some tapas you have already eaten. Apart from Spanish courses in Granada, Escuela Delengua also offers afternoon activities like going to some of the most famous tapas bars like: La Tortuga (The Turtle), La Bella y La Bestia (Beauty and The Beast), and El Espejo (The Mirror) and many, many more!

Strolling through the centre of Granada

The Cathedral of Granada is situated at a 5 minutes distance from the Spanish school Escuela Delengua, and right in the city centre. In its immidiate vicinity, there are also a lot of things to see. As has happened plenty of times in Andalusia, the Cathedral was built over an antique mosque. The construction started in 1523, and some years later, famous arquitect Diego de Siloé took the responsibility for the works.

One can find many paintings of Alonso Cano in the Cathedral’s interior. It was planned to construct two 81-meters high towers, however, this project could not be finished due to Cano’s death and missing economic means. Nowadays, there is only one tower of 57 meters.Right next to the Cathedral and the Capilla Real, the Royal Chapel, one can go for a walk through the Alcaicería, the antique bazaar,Small Statue in the Albaicín, Granada where once cloth, wool, silk and cotton shops were grouped together. This typical disctrict was destroyed due to a fire and reconstructed in 1843. Nowadays, the Alcaicería is dedicated to souvenir or pottery shops.Near by the Alcaicería, with the other students of Spanish School Delengua, you can eat and drink in the restaurants, churrerías and ice cream parlours in Plaza Bib Rambla or have a rest underneath the trees in Plaza de la Trinidad, Trinity Square in order to finish a beautiful stroll through the centre of Granada. You can come to Spanish School Delengua to make spanish courses and discover everything about Granada! See you soon!

The Cost of Living in Granada

Living in Granada is cheap and therefore during your Spanish course at Escuela Delengua, you don’t have to spend a lot to have a good time. You can walk almost all over Granada because it is very small, but if you need to use the bus, to go to the bus station for example, it costs €1.20 but there are also discounts. Furthermore, it doesn’t cost a lot to get a bus to other places in Spain. It costs €30 for a return to Madrid, €40 for a return to Seville, only €10 for a return to Malaga and €10 to and from the beach. Eating isn’t expensive either. You can buy fruit, vegetables, cheese and meat cheaply at the local markets in the city to cook at home. The other cheap option is to go for tapas, a beer or a tinto de verano (red wine and lemonade) with tapas only costs €2 and after 2 or three tapas you will have already had supper! Eating in restaurants is also quite cheap, a paella costs €11 for one person or €18 for two people. Some restaurants offer some cheap menus with a starter, main and pudding including a drink. There a various tourist attractions which you don’t have to pay for like visiting the parks in the city or some of the churches, but even the attractions that you have to pay for are not expensive. The entry into the Alhambra costs €12, to enter the garden of Generalife will cost you €9, a ticket for visiting the Cathedral costs €3.50. On the web site for Escuela Delengua there is an official list of prices which proves that in Granada it is easy to enjoy yourself without having to spend a lot of money. It is a perfect place to learn Spanish if you want to do it economically and furthermore the school which is situated in the barrio of the Albaicín in the very centre of the city offers prices that tend to be amongst the most competitive.

The Facebook page of our Spanish school Delengua in Granada

Our Spanish school Delengua was founded in 1997 and has since been offering quality courses to people worldwide for 15 years. During these last 15 years, the world has seen a quick development of the internet and more recently an exponential  increase in the development of social networks. So, naturally, the Spanish School Delengua has created its own account on the most popular of the social networks: Facebook.

To establish a long term relation with our students, it was obvious for us that Facebook was the best social network available on the internet. To succeed with these long term friendships with our students, it is essential to maintain some interactivity with them. That is why we thought that the best thing to do was to create the Facebook page of Spanish School Delengua.  So, on this page the general activity consists of  publications of videos, songs, photos with students or of Granada and articles of newspapers always linked to the Latin world, Spain or Granada. You can also find the publication of our different articles of the bilingual blog and photos of events, which take place at school. Therefore this page will allow you to practice Spanish language, find anything you need to know about our school and improve your knowledge of Spanish culture without being in the context of a Spanish course.

This page can also be very useful before your arrival to Granada, as you can ask everything you want and also have a look on all the different photos of parties, activities or excursions that previous students have posted on the Facebook page of Delengua. We are regularly on the page, so you can be sure that there will be someone every time to answer your questions. Because of this page, you can also contact students of the school, who will be happy to share their experiences of Spanish courses in Granada. Now you have only to do one thing: join Spanish school Delengua on Facebook!
