How to raise your language level whilst taking an intensive Spanish course in Granada, Spain

When you take an intensive Spanish course, it is so important to really make the most of your experience. All of our students find that they improve rapidly here at Escuela Delengua in Granada. Nevertheless, here you can take a look at some helpful tips to fully take advantage of this brilliant opportunity!

Get to know your classmates!

The majority of students come to the Spanish school alone, and on your first day there is an introduction before you are placed in a small level-based class (of a maximum of 8 students). This creates a friendly and comfortable atmosphere for students to get to know each other. You find that you make friends with students from all corners of the world, so you can discover a variety of interesting backgrounds whilst you learn Spanish through grammar and conversation. Furthermore, when you socialize with your new friends outside of class, you can further practice your Spanish. No-one is a perfect speaker so don’t be afraid to make mistakes!

Spanish courses for school groups at Ecuela Delengua, Granada

Learning Spanish doesn’t have to be a difficult and tedious process, but it cannot be done solely within the four walls of a classroom; you have to escape the confines of a school and travel to Spain, surrounding yourself in its culture and its people. For school groups looking to do exactly that and learn Spanish in the country itself, Escuela Delengua in Granada is the place to be!

School groups learn Spanish in Granada

Students from Liceo Porta in the streets of the Albayzín

The intensive Spanish courses for school groups at Escuela Delengua consist of both academic classes and cultural activities, all of which can be tailored to the specific needs and interests of individual groups. The course is made up of three to six classes per day, which can deal both with grammar and conversation, and groups are free to choose topics of their choice. With the help of the excellent native Spanish teachers at the school, the students’ language skills will visibly improve in a matter of days. Learning Spanish doesn’t stop with the classes, however: during their stay, students live in Spanish host families scattered throughout the centre of Granada, which means they have the opportunity to practice what they have learned when they go home, as well as gaining an authentic insight into the Spanish way of life.

However important it may be, studying is just one part of a Spanish course for school groups at Delengua. As the saying goes, “work hard, play hard!” Every day at Delengua includes a cultural or leisure activity in and around Granada with a guide or teacher from the school. These activities range from going to the most visited tourist site in Spain – the spectacular Alhambra and the gardens of the Generalife – to walking in the picturesque Sierra Nevada, which is only a short bus ride away. And if your group decides to do a course of two weeks, day trips are organised for the weekend, and students are able to explore the wonders of Andalusia, such as the stunning cities of Córdoba or Seville.

Dancing with Spanish Courses in Granada

Students from Colchester learn to dance to Spanish folk music

The school groups that have come to Granada in the last couple of months to do a Spanish course with Delengua had an amazing time. March saw many groups come to the school: The Italians from Liceo Porta, Monza, the Norwegians from the Dalane Videregaaende Skole, Egersund, and two Dutch groups – The Rijnlands Lyceum from Oegstgeest and Rijn IJseel College from Arnhem. The group from Oegstgeest enjoyed hiking along the “Ruta de los Cahorros” in the Sierra Nevada, and watching a traditional flamenco show in a cave in the enigmatic district of Sacromonte. The last group to visit the school was the Sixth Form College from Colchester, UK. On one of their days in Granada, they learnt about the city’s most famous son– Federico García Lorca –, and they were taught to sing and dance to one of the popular songs which Lorca himself immortalized in writing. All in all a very interesting day!

My favourite aspect of taking a Spanish course with Escuela Delengua in Granada, Spain

Every student who takes an intensive Spanish course at Escuela Delengua in Granada will of course all have their own unique experience, but something we hope everyone shares is the feeling that they all had a great time!

We spoke to some Escuela Delengua students to find out what their best moments were in Granada…

My favourite part of being at Delengua has to be the activities. We’ve been to the Alhambra, for great tapas and even to the beach! Tapas on a Monday is always really good fun as we get to know all the new students that arrive at the Spanish School. This week we went on a ‘ruta de tapas’ around the city centre which was a bit different and meant we discovered lots of really nice places we didn’t know existed!

For me the city of Granada itself is the best part. I live in the Albaicín and I just love the winding streets, the music playing in the plazas and the seemingly undiscovered corners that looks as if they’ve been there forever. The school is really close to where I live which is great and just next to my house is the mirador San Nicolas from which you can see the Alhambra. It is quite a sight when it’s lit up at night!

Exploring the Albaicin…

For me, the best part is how much I’ve learnt in such a short space of time! It’s taken a lot of studying (and a lot of time spent chatting over tapas) but I feel a lot more confident when I’m speaking Spanish now. I’ve really enjoyed the classes; the teachers really cater to the needs of each gorup and they make learning Spanish really fun!

The best part of my stay here has to be meeting so many amazing people from all over the world. In the time I’ve been here I’ve made friends from as far away as South Korea, Australia, Brazil and the USA! Finding out the different ways people do things is always fascinating and I’ve learnt some amazing things… Like did you know that in Italy touching your cheek with your index finger means you enjoyed your food?!

Prepare for your Spanish exams by taking an intensive Spanish Course in Granada, Spain

Many Spanish students have to go through exams to receive their desired language qualifications (GCSEs, A Levels, university exams) which can be a stressful process. In order to prepare for your exams, a very effective way to get practice and confidence is to take a Spanish Course at Escuela Delengua in Granada, Spain.

This intensive course at the Spanish school consists of 15 hours of Spanish lessons per week

Spanish class in Escuela Delengua

of grammar and conversation classes. This usually differs to a school or university experience where you may receive only 1 speaking class per week! Furthermore, the simple fact that you are in Spain means that you have the opportunity to speak Spanish every day whether it is with your native teachers, classmates or people about the city. Your conversational skills improve so much faster!

All students are placed into classes which suit their level and therefore they have similar abilities; this differs to a lot of universities where the class level is very varied. For this reason, it is a brilliant challenge to raise your level quickly and effectively. Furthermore, if your needs are very specific and there are particular concepts you want to practice before your exams, there is the possibility to take additional one-to-one classes for a more focused experience.

You also have the option to take part in activities organized by the school so you can experience all that Granada has to offer. These activities include trips to the Alhambra and many monuments in Granada as well as social and leisure activities such as tapas nights and salsa dancing. We believe that it is important for students to learn about the culture as well as the language of Spain. Furthermore, we offer specific courses in Spanish that integrate these two aspects.

before an exam period starts and many find it an enriching experience: “I came to Delengua solely to practise my grammar and speaking skills for my university exam. I didn´t expect that I would learn so much about Granada and meet so many new friends!”

Study Spanish at Escuela Delengua in Granada, the heart of Andalucía.

As a student, I cannot even begin to count the number of hours that I have spent with my head in a grammar book, wishing that I was a native Spanish speaker (that´s right, you´re not the only one!). Lately, I´ve come to realize that this is definitely not the best way to go about my studies and actually, I need to get out into the world!

tapas

Some students enjoying an evening of tapas!

We can sit through hours and hours of grammar lectures but really, what we need to do is to experience the true vida española! Being able to study Spanish every morning, explore Andalucía every afternoon, go for tapas every night and travel to another town or city every weekend will improve your level of both the Spanish language and culture immensely! I have just spent two weeks studying as part of an intensive Spanish course at Escuela Delengua, a language school situated right at the heart of Granada in a maze of traditional, narrow streets full of tastes, sights and smells from all over Spain.

There is a strong Arabic influence wherever you go and it is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the many ways in which Spanish itself has emerged from the Arabic language!

Escuela Delengua offers courses for all levels of Spanish from A1 to C2 as well as specialist courses such as Flamenco guitar and dancing!

Your time in Granada does not stop when you reach the outskirts of the city! Granada is perfectly situated at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains as well as being just an hour from the coast, with access to other cities such as Seville and Córdoba within just a few hours!

No matter what you´re interested in, whether it be music, flamenco dancing, theatre or hiking, Granada has plenty to offer you!

Students enjoying time with their teachers!

Being able to put what I have learned in my classes into practice on a daily basis has been excellent preparation for my year abroad, starting in September. I still have 10 weeks left here in Granada and I can already say that I am certain that my level of Spanish will be miles above where it was when I stepped on the plane in Bristol! If you would like to find out more about Spanish courses in Granada, I highly recommend Escuela Delengua; you will make friends from all over the world and I can guarantee that you will want to return to Granada!
