When it comes to studying a language, there is no doubt that the best place to learn it is the country where it’s spoken. Not only do you get the opportunity to fully immerse yourself into understanding the culture and the language, but above all, you get the chance to be able to speak it every day!
As a student studying Spanish at university, during the summer I wanted to spend the time to further improve my Spanish skills. After various recommendations, I travelled alone to Escuela Delengua to take an intensive 4 week course. I knew next to nothing about the city or the course content. Now, after completing my experience, I want to share with you why I think I studied at one of the best language schools in Spain:
Location:
From my experience, Granada has it all. It is an extremely historical city with world famous sites and monuments (namely the Alhambra). However it is also an extremely vibrant city, with an animated and exciting Spanish lifestyle. I loved the fact that I could experience both aspects of the city during my stay. The best thing was that Delengua was situated right at the heart of all the action! It resides in the Albayzín district, between the Cathedral with the city centre, and the Alhambra, so everything was accessible.
Furthermore, Granada as a city is not very expensive which meant my costs of living were kept relatively low during my stay (and admittedly, the free tapas helped with this a lot!).

Accommodation:
Finding accommodation was a daunting prospect for me. However the school helped me out in this process by offering accommodation options: shared apartments or a stay with a Spanish family. All of the apartments were no more than 10 minutes walk from the school and were offered at competitive prices (which were ideal for a university student like myself!)
Cultural immersion:
Our classes at Delengua would take place in the morning which meant in the afternoon fellow students and I could devote our time to a variety of activities. This meant we could really experience everything that Granada has to offer! This included trips to the tourist sites such as the Alhambra and weekend excursions to other cities in Andalusia such as Córdoba and Seville. However, I really enjoyed the culture activities such as tapas evenings, flamenco shows. It was a brilliant opportunity to completely immerse myself into the Spanish culture and I could practise my Spanish outside of class.

Family atmosphere:
Delengua is a small language school so I found it much easier to interact with other students and meet new people during my stay in Granada. I was placed in a class which suited my ability level which only contained around 5 students. This meant I could spend much more time speaking Spanish and it was a brilliant challenge which raised my level quickly and effectively. Furthermore, I loved the fact that we were students from a multitude of cultural backgrounds (Italian, American, German to name a few) but that we all had the common goal to learn Spanish!
Feel like home in Delengua
When I finished my course, I had a greater understanding, and more importantly, a greater confidence to speak Spanish. I had met so many friends from all over the world and I felt that I had really made the most of what Granada had to offer. I wish I could have extended my stay further!

Una experiencia estudiantil: Cómo un curso intensivo de español se destaca del resto

Cuando estudias un idioma, sin duda el mejor lugar para estudiarlo es el país donde lo hablan. No solo tienes la oportunidad de sumergirte completamente en la cultura y la lengua, sino sobre todo, ¡tienes la oportunidad de poder hablarlo cada día!
Como estudiante que estudia español en la universidad, durante el verano quería pasar el tiempo mejorando mis habilidades en español. Después de varias recomendaciones, viajé sola a Escuela Delengua para realizar un curso intensivo de 4 semanas. No conocía nada de la ciudad ni el contenido del curso. Ahora, después de cumplir mi experiencia, quiero compartir con vosotros la razón por la que creo que estudié en una de las mejoras escuelas de español de España.
Lugar:
Desde mi experiencia, Granada tiene lo todo. Es una ciudad muy histórica con sitios y monumentos de fama mundial (a saber: la Alhambra). Sin embargo, es también una ciudad muy viva con un estilo de vida español, animada y emocionante. Me encantó llegar a experimentar los dos aspectos de la ciudad durante mi estancia. ¡Lo mejor es que Delengua se ubica justo en el corazón de la acción! Se sitúa en el barrio Albayzín, entre la Catedral con el centro, además de la Alhambra, por eso todo era accesible.
Además Granada es una ciudad barata, así que mis costes de vida siguen siendo bajos durante mi estancia (¡cierto es que las tapas gratis ayuda mucho con esto!)
Alojamiento:
Para mí la búsqueda del alojamiento fue un prospecto descorazonador. Sin embargo, la escuela me ayudó con este proceso por ofrecer opciones de alojamiento: los apartamentos compartidos o una estancia con una familia española. Todos los apartamentos están máximo a 10 minutos de camino de la escuela y su precio es muy competitivo (¡esto fue ideal para una estudiante universitaria como yo misma!)
Inmersión cultural:
Nuestras clases en Escuela Delengua tienen lugar por la mañana así que por la tarde mis compañeros de clase y yo podemos disfrutar una gran variedad de actividades. Por lo tanto ¡podíamos experimentar todo lo que nos ofrece Granada! El programa consiste en visitas a los sitios turísticos tales como la Alhambra, además de las excursiones de los fines de semana como Córdoba y Sevilla. Personalmente, disfruté mucho las actividades culturales por ejemplo las noches de tapas y los espectáculos de flamenco. Era una maravillosa oportunidad para sumergirme completamente en la cultura española y podía también practicar mi español fuera de clase.
Ambiente familiar:
Delengua es una escuela de español bastante pequeña así que encontré mucho más fácil poder interaccionar con otros estudiantes y conocer a nueva gente durante mi estancia en Granada. Me pusieron en una clase ajustada a mi nivel que solo tenía alrededor de 5 estudiantes. Por eso podía pasar más tiempo hablando español y fue un buen desafío para mejorar mi nivel con rapidez y eficacia. Además, me encantó que hubiera estudiantes de multitud de culturas (italianos, americanos, alemanes por citar algunos) y además ¡todos tenemos el mismo objetivo de aprender español!
Cuando terminé mi curso, tenía un conocimiento mayor, y lo más importante, una confianza mayor para hablar español. Había hecho tantos amigos de todas partes del mundo y sentí que aproveché bien lo que me ofrece Granada. ¡Ojalá prolongara mi estancia más tiempo!
