| La Huerta de San Vicente fue la casa de verano de la familia García Lorca entre 1926 y 1936. La vida cotidiana del poeta, en los veranos que pasó en la Huerta, consistía en descansar junto a su familia, recibir a sus amigos y sobre todo escribir. En ella, Federico García Lorca escribió en su totalidad o en parte algunas de sus obras principales como Yerma o Bodas de Sangre. Esta casa significó también para él un reencuentro con el paisaje de sus orígenes y la simplicidad campesina, contrariamente a la agitación de la capital. En su huerta, García Lorca vivió los días previos a su detención y asesinato en agosto de 1936, al comienzo de la guerra civil en España. Durante los años 40 y 50, la Huerta fue cuidada por una prima de Federico, ya que toda la familia se había marchado a los Estados Unidos. A partir de finales de los años 60, el crecimiento urbanístico de la ciudad de Granada amenazó seriamente la existencia de la Huerta. El hermano de Federico lideró las protestas de intelectuales y artistas, y juntos, consiguieron salvar la casa.En 1985, Isabel García Lorca cedió la casa al Ayuntamiento de Granada y la Huerta entró así a formar parte del patrimonio histórico-artístico de la ciudad.
En 1995 se abrió al público y ahora todo el mundo puede visitar este lugar de memoria histórica y literaria. Hasta los Reyes de España la visitaron en 1998, centenario del nacimiento del poeta y “Año Lorca”. La Huerta de San Vicente se encuentra en el parque García Lorca (inaugurado en 1992), un lugar muy bonito de Granada donde podrás descansar o hacer deporte. El Parque está a solo 15 minutos andando desde el centro de la ciudad y de la Escuela Delengua. Entonces, si te vienes a Granada a hacer un curso de español, disfrutarás seguro de tu estancia y además enriquecerás tu cultura granadina acercándote al poeta español de mayor importancia histórica.

LA HUERTA DE SAN VICENTE

The San Vicente Orchard was the family García Lorca’s summer residence between the years 1926 and 1936. The poet’s daily life during the summers he spent in the Orchard consisted in relaxing with his family, welcoming friends and, above all, writing. Here, Federico García Lorca wrote some of his most important works or parts of them, such as Yerma or Bodas de Sangre. For him, being in this house also meant a reunion with the landscape of his origins and the rural simplicity, in contrast to the capital’s agitation. García Lorca lived in his Orchard the last days before being arrested and murdered in August 1936, at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. During the 40s and 50s, the Orchard was looked after by one of Federico’s cousins since the whole family had moved off to the United States. Since the early 60s, urban growth of the city of Granada had severely threatened the existence of the Orchard. Federico’s brother led the protests of intellectuals and artists. Together, they succeeded in saving the house.In 1985, Isabel García Lorca handed over the house to the city council of Granada. In this way, the Orchard became part of the historical and artistic heritage of the city.
In 1995, it was opened to the public so that nowadays everybody can visit this place of historical memory. Even the Spanish Kings came to visit the house in 1998, centenary of the poet’s birth and “Year of Lorca”. The San Vicente Orchard is situated in the García Lorca park (inaugurated in 1992), a very nice place in Granada where you can relax or do sport. The park is only at a 15-minute walk from the city centre and from the Spanish school Escuela Delengua. If you come to Granada to take a Spanish course, you will surely enjoy your stay. Besides, you will learn more about Granada’s culture approaching Spain’s historically most important poet. |
