XXXI Festival Internacional de Jazz de Granada/ 31st Granada International Jazz Festival

El XXXI Festival Internacional de Jazz de Granada se abre con un concierto del legendario compositor de jazz Wayne Shorter. El ganador de ocho Grammys fue miembro de los Jazz Messengers de Art Blakey, del histórico quinteto de Miles Davis y fundador de Weather Report, un grupo que creó un nuevo sonido de jazz rock. Otro músico muy conocido es Joe Lovano, que presenta el “Lovano Europa Quartet”, un proyecto novedoso integrado por músicos europeos. Aparte de Nils Petter Molvaer, que ofrece un jazz contemporáneo con elementos de break beats, hip hop y rock, los músicos exitosos de jazz Kurt Rosenwinkel y Charles Lloyd y Esperanza Spalding, que participa por primera vez en este festival, este año se presta especial atención a los músicos granadinos. En el Ciclo Granada Jazz participan entre otros la Granada Big Band y el grupo Parkerland Nonet.

Aparte de estos conciertos, durante el Festival también hay actividades paralelas, por ejemplo más de treinta conciertos en los Trasnoches de Jazz, que son organizados por los locales y clubes de la ciudad. Además hay varios conciertos gratuitos en la calle. En Puerta Real se puede ver conciertos de Potato Head Jazz Band, un grupo con miembros de distintas nacionalidades que ofrece un jazz tradicional, y conciertos del Paul Stocker Cuarteto, un músico residente en Granada que ha colaborado con artistas de todas partes del mundo y que cuenta sus experiencias a través de su música.

Este año también hay una exposición de carteles en el Teatro Alhambra. Se expone una colección de los carteles del Festival de Jazz de Granada diseñados por el artista Juan Vida. Desde el tercer festival en el año 1982, Juan Vida se dedicó cada año a crear el cartel para el festival. Tiene un estilo inconfundible; para los carteles siempre usa muchos colores para mostrar personajes y crear ambientes.

El Festival Internacional de Jazz de Granada es sin duda uno de los festivales mas grandes e importantes de España. Por supuesto, los estudiantes de la Escuela Delengua aprovechan también de este evento y van a ver al menos uno de los conciertos del festival. Un concierto de jazz en la calle

The 31^st Granada International Jazz Festival opens with a concert by the legendary jazz composer Wayne Shorter. The winner of eight Grammys was member of the Jazz Messengers of Art Blakey, of the historial quintet of Miles Davis and founder of Weather Report, a group that created a new jazz rock sound. Another famous musician is Joe Lovano who presents the “Lovano Europa Quartet”, a new type of project consisting of european musicians. Apart from Nils Petter Molvaer, who offers contemporary jazz with break beats, hip hop and rock elements, the successful jazz musicians Kurt Rosenwinkel and Charles Lloyd and Esperanza Spalding, who participates for the first time in this festival, this year the festival pays special attention to musicians from Granada. Among others, the Granada Big Band and the group Parkerland Nonet participate in the Granada Jazz Cycle.

Apart from these concerts, there are also parallel activities during the festival, for example more than thirty concerts during the “Trasnoches de Jazz”, the “Sleepless Nights of Jazz”, which are organized by the pubs and clubs of the city. Furthermore, there are various free concerts in the streets. At Puerta Real you can see a concert by the Potato Head Jazz Band, a group consisting of musicians of different nationalities that offers traditional jazz, and a concert by the Paul Stocker Quartet, a musician resident in Granada who has colaborated with artists from all parts of the world and who talks about his experiences through his music.

This year there is also an exposition in the Alhambra Theater, where posters of the Jazz Festival are exhibited. These posters have been designed by the artist Juan Vida, who has dedicated himself to create the festival’s poster every year since the third festival in 1982. His style is quite distinctive; for his posters he always uses many different colours to portray personalities and to create a certain atmosphere.

Granada International Jazz Festival is unquestionably one of the biggest and most important festivals in Spain. Of course, the students of Delengua Spanish Language School will also enjoy this festival and will go to at least one of the festival’s concerts.
