La chica que jugaba con las olas / The girl who was playing with the waves

El verano ha terminado ya y los días son cada vez más cortos. Los turistas se han marchado y la mayoría de los bares y tiendas han cerrado. El pueblo está vacío y casi sin vida. Sin embargo el hotel donde trabaja Inés está abierto todo el año. Es un pequeño hotel, al lado del mar, pero que atrae a mucha gente durante el verano así como en primavera, aunque menos durante otros periodos.

Inés habla muy bien español. Lo aprendió el año pasado en la Escuela Delengua en Granada y ahora está trabajando como recepcionista. Como en esta época del año no hay demasiados clientes, Inés no está muy ocupada y a veces trabajando piensa en el buen tiempo que ha hecho durante este verano. Especialmente las tres semanas de vacaciones en julio fueron estupendas. Inés pasó su tiempo sobre todo en la playa tomando el sol, nadando, charlando con amigos y bailando por las tardes.

Un día Inés se despertó muy temprano y notó que hacía mucho viento. Desayunó muy pronto y fue casi corriendo a la playa. El mar estaba estupendo, embravecido. Inés estaba tan absorta jugando con las olas que no se dio cuesta del grupo de chicos que se acercaban. Entonces ella saltó y se cayó accidentalmente, pero en unos brazos. Levantó la vista y vio al chico más hermoso del mundo entero.

Después del trabajo Inés siempre va a dar un paseo con su novio, quien la conoció en las olas un día. Él y las olas son sus recuerdos más agradables del verano pasado.

The summer has already  finished and the days have started to become shorter. Tourists have already left and most of the bars and shops have closed. The village is empty and is like a ghost town. Nevertheless, the hotel where Inés works is open the whole year. This is a small hotel next to the sea and attracts a lot of people during summer as well as the spring but less during the other seasons.

Inés speaks very good Spanish. She learned it last year at Escuela Delengua in Granada and she now works as a receptionist. Now at this time of the year there are not too many tourists, Inés isn’t too busy and sometimes thinks about the great time she had over the summer. The three weeks of her holiday that went particularly well. Inés spent most of her time sunbathing on the beach, swimming, chatting with friends and dancing in the evenings.

One day Inés woke up very early and noticed that it was very windy. She quickly had breakfast and ran to the beach. The sea was fantastic, the waves were high. Ines was so absorbed playing in the waves that she didn´t notice a group of boys who were approaching. And so when she jumped up and came down, but accidentaly in someone´s arms. When she looked up she saw the most handsome boy of the entire world!

After work Inés always goes for a walk with her boyfriend, whom she met in the waves that day. He and the waves are her most beautiful memories from last summer.

Cinco veces a la semana la Escuela Delengua organiza actividades después de la clase. El miércoles es siempre “un día de cine”. El día 25 de marzo por la tarde los estudiantes, junto con un profesor, fueron a ver una nueva película de Pedro Almodóvar – el director español más famoso.

“Los abrazos rotos” es una película emocionante sobre un cineasta ciego, Mateo, que 14 años antes perdió su vista y a la mujer de su vida, Lena, en un accidente de coche brutal. La acción ocurre en el presente y muestra cómo Mateo, quien desde el accidente se ha llamado Harry Caine, es cuidado por su amiga Judith y el hijo de ella, Diego, mientras escribe guiones para vivir.

Aparte de oscuridad y tragedia, que está presente, es realmente una maravillosa y sutil película. Tiene muchos momentos cómicos, un gran reparto y algunas partes muy interesantes, por ejemplo cuando Mateo rueda “Chicas y maletas”, que es una “película-en-la-película”.

Los estudiantes realmente disfrutaron de la película. La encontraron no demasiado difícil para ellos, a pesar de que el español no es su lengua materna. Ahora ellos están preparados para ver la película siguiente, el día 1 de abril, que es “Mentiras y gordas”.

Five days a week The Language School Delengua organises after class activities. Wednesday is always “a cinema day”. On the 25th of March in the evening, students went to see the newest film from Spain’s most famous director, Pedro Almodovar, accompanied by a teacher.

“Broken hugs” is a moving story about a blind filmmaker Mateo Blanco, who 14 years earlier lost his sight and the love of his life, Lena, in as brutal car accident. The action takes places mostly in the present-day, showing how Mateo, who since the accident has called himself Harry Caine, is looked after by his friend Judith and her son Diego, while he writes scripts for a living. There are flashbacks to the past with Lena’s story, how they met, fell in love and got into the accident.

Despite of the darkness and  the tragedy,which is presented, it is a really wonderful and subtle movie to watch. It has a lot of comedic moments, a great cast, and some interesting parts, for example when Mateo is filming “ Girls and Suitcases” which is a “film-within-the-film”.

Students really enjoyed the film, found it not too difficult to understand, despite the fact that Spanish is not their first language. Now they are prepared to watch the next film, on Wednesday 1st of April, which is “Mentiras y gordas”.
