Un paseo por el Realejo

El Realejo, antiguo Garnata Al-Yahud, (Granada de los judíos) es el antiguo barrio judío de la ciudad de Granada.

Cuando los cristianos tomaron la ciudad, destruyeron y arrasaron el barrio de los judíos y lo renombraron Realejo. Se encuentra a los pies de la Alhambra y su parte llana está a 3 minutos caminando de la Escuela Delengua, que ofrece cursos Intensivos de español para extranjeros.

Empezando el paseo por abajo, te encontrarás con la Casa de los Tiros, un museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares, instalado en un edificio renacentista del siglo XVI. Hay también algunas iglesias de interés como San Cecilio y la de Santo Domingo con la estatua de Fray Luis de Granada en su plaza.

Después llegarás al Campo del Príncipe, el núcleo del Realejo. Es una plaza grande que ha sido creada por los Reyes Católicos, para el matrimonio de su hijo “el poco tiempo Príncipe Juan”.

En verano, el Campo del Príncipe se convierte en un centro de vida nocturna ya que lo rodean muchos bares y pubs en los que se sirven muy buenas tapas en terrazas.

Para acabar, y si te atreves, puedes subir hasta la Alhambra por la cuesta del Realejo. En esta parte más alta del barrio puedes andar por callejuelas estrechas y ver muchos cármenes (casas con jardines). ¡Sin duda un paseo muy bonito en Granada! En la Escuela Delengua no puede faltar un paseo de esta clase y las actividades y salidas. Por cierto, siempre hay un profesor que acompaña y vigila a los estudiantes. También facilita a los estudiantes informaciones históricas, entre otras, y les proporciona un remedio de guía.

The Realejo, old Garnata Al-Yahud (Granada of the Jews) is the old jewish district of Granada.

When it was time of  Christians’ occupation, they destroyed and demolished the district and called it Realejo. It is just situated at he foot of the Alhambra and the flat part is just 3 minutes walking from the Escuela Delengua, that offers Intensive Spanish courses for foreigners.

If you have a walk starting from the lower area, you will discover the “Casa de los Tiros”, an Art and popular habits museum, established in a XVI century’ building. You can’t miss the very interesting Church of San Cecilio, or the one of  San Domingo, with Fray Luis of Granada statue in the middle of the square.

Then, you will be lead to Campo de Príncipe (the “field of the Prince”), the heart of the Realejo. It is a spacious square, created by the Catholic Monarchs for the celebration of the wedding of their short-lived son Prince Juan. In summer, it is a high point of Granada’s nightlife, with many taverns serving drinks and tapas in the terraces.

If you dare, You can end the walk with a climb over a slope (called Cuetsa del Realejo) that leads to the Alhambra. In this higher part of the area, you can walk by narrow streets, and admire a lot of “carmenes” (houses with beautiful gardens). There is no doubt it is a beautiful in Granada. In Delengua School, of course we can’t miss such a ride, and included in the programm of spanish courses are the activities and excursions. Actually, one teacher always supervises the groupe and provides students with relevant information and guidance.
